SUPPORTING THE IMPORTANT WORK OF FEED SCARBOROUGH

Throughout the run of Scarborough Players production of A Christmas Carol and SMT’s
Christmas Cabaret, we will be collecting donations for Feed Scarborough. Your donations will
support 6 food banks in Scarborough which anticipate serving over 30,000 people.

When you come to see the shows, please bring your donations for Feed Scarborough!

From Feed Scarborough
5.8 million Canadians don’t get enough healthy food, including 1.4 million children.
On average Feed Scarborough registers 1,244 new clients each month!

When money is tight, food is the first thing people negotiate with. We can’t control our rent or utilities, but we can choose to eat less or eat less nutritious foods to help save money. Based on reported incomes and expenses, food bank users have a median of $8.01 left per person per day after rent and utilities were paid; for racialized individuals, it was $7.75, and for recent immigrants to Canada within the past year, it was $3.81. Scarborough is made up of 64% immigrants.

Food Banks were meant to be a band-aid solution to an issue in the 80s. Now there are 61,000 non-profit organizations in Canada that provide food to people at low or no cost. These charities outnumber grocery stores 4 to 1.
