Hearing Loop/Hearing Assist Headsets

Thanks to a generous grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, Theatre Scarborough has been able to install a hearing loop system at the theatre.

Using Your Existing Hearing Aid

Most hearing aids and cochlear implants have a “T-coil” setting that allows them to pick up the signal directly from the hearing loop in the theatre.

On some hearing aids there is a physical “T” switch or button. Others can be programmed through your remote, or an app on your smartphone.

If you are unsure, speak with your audiologist and ask about the “T-coil” setting.

Using One of Our Portable Receivers

.Anyone can borrow one of our 15 portable receivers and a set of headphones.

We sanitize the headphones after each use, but you are free to bring your own with a ⅛ plug if you wish.

Look for the banner displaying the Hearing Loop logo in the lobby. One of our Front of House Volunteers will provide a device and instruct you in its use.

Audiologists recommend that you remove any hearing aids before using our headphones in order to avoid feedback (but remember to bring the case for your hearing aids so that you don’t misplace them in a pocket!)

How to Use the Headsets

  • Place the lanyard strap around neck.
  • Place headset over both ears and adjust for fit
    • Switch unit on by turning volume control slowly clockwise
    • Please turn off the device when not in use. The LED light will go out.
    • Please return to Hearing Assist staff at the end of the performance.
  • All headsets used at a performance are sanitized before the next performance.
