ABOUT THE SHOW
Halfway There is the story of a circle of four female friends in the small town of Stewiacke who meet every day to “speak our minds” about their lives; lives that are all about to change, threatening the circle, starting with the arrival of a new man in town.
Important: We will be providing a safe working environment – all participants in this production from creative staff, crews, actors and other volunteers must be fully vaccinated. Masks will be required.
September 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 2023 at 8 p.m.
September 10, 17, and 23, 2023 at 2 p.m.
Ages listed reflect how the character should appear onstage, not necessarily the age of the actor.
Janine Babineau (female-identifying, early-mid 30’s): Frank, outspoken. Stuck in a relationship gone stale. Travelled the world in fashion and came back to Stewiacke 8 years ago because she missed it. “The baby of the group” but also “the clearest thinker”. Resisting change.
Vi (female-identifying, 50-60): Down-to-earth and maybe the most vocal of the four. Lacking a filter. Likes to stir things up but has the firmest moral code of the four. The strong one, who’s like “a sister” to them all. Facing the biggest move.
Rita (female-identifying, 50-60): “Smart and funny”. A flirty/vampy exterior masks old wounds and lasting sadness. The best dancer in Stewiacke. Also, not much filter.
Mary Ellen (identifying, 50-60): “The nice one.” Quieter than the others but loves a good gossip. Has been denying her own needs to meet her family’s for too long.
Sean Merrit (male-identifying, 42 years old): From Toronto, the worst thing that could said about him beyond “a little woebegone”. A doctor recently dumped by his fiançée, he’s moved to Stewiacke on an impulse. A good sport.

AUDITION AND REHEARSAL LOCATION
Auditions and Rehearsals will be held at 780 Birchmount, Unit 5 (West side of Birchmount, south of Eglinton, beside the Alison’s Fine Foods. TTC accessible by #17 Bus from Warden Station or any Eglinton West bus from Kennedy Station. However, Eglinton is under construction and traffic is very slow from Kennedy. Some north/south streets like Birchmount and Warden can be closed at Eglinton causing transit to re-route. Please check with TTC for updates.
Please prepare a short comedic monologue or light dramatic monologue – no more than 90 seconds. Be prepared to be re-directed. There will be cold readings from the play.
Please contact email@example.com for more information about the play. Due to COVID, once you have booked your audition, we will be sending you forms to complete at home which can then be emailed along with your headshot/photo and resume. We will be managing contact, distancing and numbers in the space.
Please be aware that actors will not be cast if they have commitment to a second production. If you have such a commitment or intend to audition for a second show in the hope of performing in both, please do not audition for this production. (This doesn’t prevent you from auditioning for another show if you don’t know what the outcome of this audition would be; but if cast in both, you would have to choose one.)
There may be some flexibility to accommodate holidays, but this shouldn’t be assumed. The actor playing Janine will be required at almost all rehearsals. Other actors will have limited time off as this is an ensemble piece.
First read-through will be Tuesday, June 27, 2023
Most rehearsals will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 7:30 – 10:30 p.m. and Sundays, 1 – 5 p.m.
Some rehearsals and all performances are at Scarborough Village Theatre, 3600 Kingston Road (at Markham Road).
Additional rehearsals may be added as we move closer to the production opening. There may also be the need to incorporate other rehearsal days to schedule other parts of the play. You will be asked to please list ANY potential conflicts.
