HALFWAY THERE

There’s no such thing as a secret in Stewiacke, Nova Scotia. Not when good friends meet for coffee every day at 4:30 p.m. at the local diner. Vi, Rita, Mary Ellen, and Janine are all as close as can be, and they know everybody’s business. But when Sean, a heartbroken doctor from Toronto, moves in to take a temporary job at the clinic, he tips the Maritime town that’s famous for being halfway between the North Pole and the equator, off its axis.

Norm Foster is at his best here as Halfway There is just that kind of lovely play: old-fashioned and truthful, warm and wise, funny and touching. You will root for everyone, longing for them to find happiness.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Charles Dickens is ready to present one of the famed platform readings that packed auditoriums in Europe and North America. And so, he begins his beloved Christmas classic:

“To begin with Marley was dead…
Old Marley was dead as a doornail…
This must be understood or nothing wonderful can come of this story I am about to relate.”

Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly businessman who cares nothing for Christmas cheer, until one Christmas Eve he is visited by three spirits; the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future who set out to show Ebenezer the error of his ways.

Join Dickens as he takes you on Scrooge’s ghostly journey to redemption.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS

Truvy’s beauty salon in Chinquapin, Louisiana is where all the ladies who are “anybody” come to have their hair done. Helped by her eager new assistant, Annelle, the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town’s rich curmudgeon, Ouiser, an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, and the local social leader, M’Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby is about to marry a “good ole boy.”

The play, a woman’s play in the best sense of the word, is alternately hilarious and touching. Its examination of female bonding and the lasting friendships it can create is part of the play’s enduring appeal.
