SYNOPSIS
This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama is an American classic set in the late 1940’s. The story revolves around the last days of Willy Loman, a failing salesman, who cannot understand how he was unable to win success and happiness. Through a series of tragic soul-searching revelations of the life he has lived with his wife, his sons, and his business associates, we discover how his quest for the “American Dream” kept him blind to the people who truly loved him. A thrilling work of deep and revealing beauty that remains one of the most profound classic dramas of the American theatre.
REQUIREMENTS
Please prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic monologue. You may also be asked to do a cold-read from the script, so it is best to familiarize yourself with the show. Please bring a copy of your resumé and headshot to the audition. Callbacks will consist of scenes from the show, performed in groups. We ask that you be available for the full time period so we can have a chance to experiment with different pairings/groupings of actors. Sides will be provided via email to all actors who receive a callback.

Note: The ages of characters are flexible and casting will be based on chemistry between actors. Scarborough Theatre Guild welcomes diversity in casting and actors of all backgrounds, identities and abilities are encouraged to apply!
| Role | Description |
| Willy Loman | Male (late 50’s to early 60’s): The Salesman. Willy believes wholeheartedly in the American Dream of easy success and wealth, but he has never achieved it. |
| Linda Loman | Female (late 50’s to early 60’s): Loyal and loving wife of Willy. Occasionally, she seems to be taken in by Willy’s hopes for future glory and success, but at other times, she seems far more realistic and less fragile than her husband. |
| Biff Loman | Male (late 20’s to late 30’s): Flawed older son of Willy and Linda Loman. He was a popular jock in high school, but as an adult has failed to live up to his potential. |
| Happy Loman | Male (late 20’s to early 30’s): Their younger son who has lived in Biff’s shadow for much of his life. He now has a job and is more successful than his brother. He exudes a confidence bordering on cockiness, and a sense of contentment. |
| Bernard | Male (late 20’s to early 30’s): Biff and Happy’s childhood friend. Studious and serious, he looked up to Biff as a young boy, but as an adult he has become far more successful than either of the Loman brothers. |
| Charley | Male (late 50’s to early 60’s): Wise-cracking, kind neighbour of the Loman family. He and Willy have always had a love / hate relationship, but he has been secretly helping Willy financially for many years. |
| Uncle Ben | Male (between 20 and 60): Willy’s older brother who went off on an adventure and became rich. He appears to Willy in his hallucinations. |
| Howard Wagner | Male (between 35 and 45): Willy’s boss. He is young enough to be his son and he has little time for Willy and his struggles. |
| The Woman* | Female (between 30 and 45): “Miss Francis,” as Willy calls her, she was Willy’s one-time mistress. |
| Jenny* | Female (between 30 and 45): Howard Wagner’s secretary. |
| Stanley | Male (mid 20’s to late 30’s): A waiter in a restaurant and a friend of Happy’s. |
| Miss Forsythe | Female (between 20 and 30): A young lady Happy picks up in a bar. |
| Letta | Female (between 20 and 30): Friend to Miss Forsythe. She meets with her friend and with Happy and Biff for drinks in a restaurant |
*Please note that the roles of The Woman and Jenny will be played by the same actor.
