The Scarborough Theatre Guild Board
Are you interested in . . .
Making a difference? Developing leadership skills?
Meeting interesting people? Sharing or learning new skills?
Renewing old acquaintances? Shaping the future of STG?
Then we want to see you at the Scarborough Theatre Guild’s 2023 AGM

The Scarborough Theatre Guild’s Annual General Meeting relies heavily on members’ attendance to be successful. It is at this year-end meeting that the past season’s activities and finances are fully disclosed; upcoming projects are discussed and a new Executive Board is elected to office by the current membership. Members of STG’s Executive Board are responsible for governing and supervising the policies and affairs of the Guild, its committees and officers, and carrying out the goals of the organization. They also contribute to Theatre Scarborough policy and direction.

If you are currently a Full, Honorary or Technical member of STG, you have the privilege not only to elect the new Board but also to stand for election. If interested in standing for election, or for more information, please contact any member of the current Board prior to the AGM. Nominations can also be made the evening of the AGM, as long as the person nominated is either present or has been made aware of the nomination, is willing to stand, and the nomination is seconded.

Unlike other theatre groups who vote individuals into specific jobs, STG members only elect and vote for people to be on the Executive Board. Job positions are agreed-on after the election by the Executive Board members themselves, according to what they feel qualified and comfortable doing. The only positions stipulated in STG’s Constitution and By-Laws that must be filled by a Board member are President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary.

All other positions can be filled by either elected Executive members or other members appointed by the Executive to do the job required. This way, even inexperienced members wishing to stand for election or serve without being elected, have a chance to learn as they go with the help of more experienced Executive members.

All elected Executive positions are for a term of one-year, expiring at the next AGM. Meetings are usually held once a month, lasting approximately two and a half hours. Actual time involvement varies depending on the responsibilities of the position. Please see the detailed Job Descriptions or ask the incumbent for more information.

The AGM is an opportunity to make your STG membership count. Membership is so much more than paying a mandatory fee when cast in a show or being able to see Theatre Scarborough shows at a discount. You, as a member, have a vested interest in the organization, and in its future. In a sense you are ‘part owner’, and only you can ensure that the group thrives.

If you are unable to join the Executive, please consider volunteering for a committee or helping with Front-of-House, Theatre Refreshments or Box Office. Any member of the current Executive would be more than happy to discuss opportunities available.
