Dear Friends of Scarborough Players,

As you know, we are all dealing with the impact of COVID-19. We have had to cancel performances and now productions to ensure your health and safety and the health of all our actors, designers, production teams and volunteers.

Scarborough Players reluctantly cancelled the remaining performances of Pride and Prejudice from March 14-21, 2020. We had hoped that if the curve of this pandemic flattened, that we might be able to remount Pride and Prejudice later in the season but that does not seem likely now at all. We are not sure when we will have access to the theatre as The City of Toronto has now cancelled permits until June 30, 2020.

As a result of the City’s decision, Scarborough Players has also made the difficult decision to cancel our May/June production of The Government Inspector. Also the director, cast and team have not been able to rehearse since mid-March and there was no way for them to continue to do so safelyOur plan is to schedule it in another season down the line. Please see our website and our social media pages for updates.

Though we may not be performing, we continue to have bills to pay including the rent on our rehearsal space and for the theatre. Scarborough Players is confident that we can weather this storm for the time being though we will have no income for the foreseeable future.

There are a few ways that you can help us weather this storm and show your support for the Scarborough Players and for live theatre here in Scarborough:

Patrons who have purchased tickets to affected performances of Pride and Prejudice and The Government Inspector will be contacted by our Box Office staff. Please note our Box Office is volunteer run and this process is likely to be lengthy. We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

When contacted, you will have the following options:

  1.  Receiving a pass to be used for a production in the 2020-2021 season for a show produced by Scarborough Players.
  2. Converting your ticket purchase into a donation and receiving a tax receipt.
  3. Receiving a refund.

As a registered charity, the Scarborough Players can issue generous tax receipts for donations to our theatre company. Your support can literally help us keep the lights on. The donation process is simple and very fast you can:

  1. Donate through our website by clicking here. You can use the pull down menu to direct your donation to the Scarborough Players.
  2. You can send a cheque directly to the Scarborough Players (attn Linda) at 780 Birchmount Rd, Unit 5, Scarborough, ON M1K 5H4

We love telling you stories and we miss the magic of performance and an audience’s response. We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding in these extraordinary circumstances.

We look forward to entertaining you again soon!

Please take care,

Katherine Turner, President Scarborough Players
