SMTers On The Town

Like the sailors on 24 hour leave in the Broadway classic ON THE TOWN, SMTers are often out and about performing with other theatre groups. On this page we try to keep up with as many of our alumni as we can who are performing elsewhere. If you loved them on our stage, go and see what else they're doing! DEATHTRAP – SCARBOROUGH PLAYERS

Meg Gibson (Roz in 9 to 5: The Musical) directs this twisty drama and Clive Lacey (Senex in Forum, Sir Bedevere in Spamalot) takes on the role of Sidney Bruhl played by Michael Caine in the film version. The show runs June 30 – July 15, 2017 at the Scarborough Village Theatre.

CONFIDENTIAL MUSICAL THEATRE PROJECT – TORONTO FRINGE

That wacky redhead Marion Abbott (Cinderella in Into The Woods) brings her Confidential project to the fringe stage. Over the course of the festival there will be 7 different musicals performed. Want to know what the shows are then you’ll have to buy a ticket and go!! Jarrod Schroll (Tommy in The Music Man) is in both the July 5th and 14th editions, Jason Silzer (The Governer/Inn Keeper in Man of La Mancha, Luther Billis in South Pacific) and Carol Wells (Director of The Music Man) are featured in the July 11th performance, Deva Neely (Meg in Damn Yankees and MD for Crazy For You) is leading the charge in the July 13th edition and Kathy Knight (Rachel Lynde in Anne of Green Gables) is featured in the July 16th version. The shows will be at the Al Green Theatre, 720 Spadina Avenue.

HAPPY FAMILY – TORONTO FRINGE

Kristi Woods-Nogal stars in this 3 hander play. A social worker, a business exec, and a guy who lives in the basement, all walk into a park. Their Mom is missing, and they all want to get her safely back to the seniors’ home ... or do they? The show runs July 5 – 16 at the Franco Boni Theatre, 1115 Queen Street West as part of the Toronto Fringe Festival.

TITANIC – WAVESTAGE

SMTers Matthew Butler (Ewart Dunlop/Quartet in The Music Man), Lauren Lazar (Alma Hix in The Music Man), Caroline Rowe (Josie Pye in Anne of Green Gables) and Jamie Higgins (Ensemble in The King and I) are all featured in Wavestage Theatre’s production of Titanic. The show runs July 13 – 16 at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, 10268 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill.

Larry Westlake (Charlie Cowell in The Music Man), Olivia Jon (Antonia in Man of La Mancha), Jennie Garde (Olga in Nine, Charlotte in A Little Night Music), Aaron Craig (Muleteer/Moor in Man of La Mancha), Meg Gibson (Roz in 9 to 5: The Musical), David Rudat (Levi in Joseph), Olivia Jon (Antonia in Man of La Mancha) and Bill Dietrich are featured in this concert that celebrates the Performing Arts! A cast of 6 will entertain you with songs, dances and jokes that are old enough to vote! URINETOWN – FIRST ACT PRODUCTIONS

Taylor Rodkin (Gracie Shinn in The Music Man) starts as Hope Cladwell and Nicole Burda (Amaryllis in The Music Man) is featured as Mr. Cladwell’s Secretary in this hilariously dark show. The show runs July 21-23 at The Papermill Theatre, 67 Pottery Road, Toronto.

HARVEST MOON RISING - WOMEN OF MUSICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL

Kathy Knight (Rachel Lynde in Anne of Green Gables) plays Lillian in this Leslie Arden musical as part of the Women of Musical Theatre Festival. The show runs twice on July 22nd at 2pm and 7:30pm at the Arts & Letter Club, 14 Elm Street.

ON GOLDEN POND – SCARBOROUGH PLAYERS

The astounding Chris Hardess (Mr. Lawrence in Little Women, The Wizard in Wizard of Oz and soooo many more) stars as the curmudgeonly yet loveable Norman Thayer Jr. in Scarborough Players' production of On Golden Pond. He shares the stage with the uber talented Kerrie Lamb (Marjorie May in Gypsy) who plays his daughter Chelsea. The show runs September 8 – 23 at Scarborough Village Theatre

YOU’LL GET USED TO IT: THE WAR SHOW – CCP

Meg Gibson (Roz in 9 to 5) directs this uniquely Canadian story of the most famous conflict in world history, told with humour, heart and compassion. The show runs November 2 – 11at the Fairview Library Theatre.

IF/THEN – THEATRE AURORA

Sergio Calderon (Asst Dir for Anne of Green Gables, Cain/Japeth in Children of Eden) directs this contemporary Broadway musical about living in New York today and all of the possibilities of tomorrow. The cast features STMers Patricia Dambrosio Mongeon (Thelma/Balloon Girl in Gypsy), Brian Hargan (Herman in Sweet Charity) and Mary Bowden (Sarah in Guys & Dolls). The show will include a lighting design by the spectacular David Buffham (LD for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Spelling Bee, Anne and more). The show runs January 25 – February 3 at Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Drive, Aurora.

THE DROWSY CHAPERONE – RYLEEPUSS PRODUCTIONS

Michael Yaneff (Beadle Bamford in Sweeney Todd, Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie) directs and Lauren Lazar (Alma Hix in Music Man, Julie Jordan in Carousel) music directs this Canadian musical within a comedy. The show runs in February 2018 at the Uxbridge Musical Hall.

ZUMBA – THE MOVE STUDIO

Tamara Stokoe-Said (Lola in Damn Yankees, Anita in West Side Story) not only loves to dance onstage but she brings her moves to her fitness studio, The Move Studio in Newmarket. Tamara is a Zumba Education Specialist who travels all across Canada training Zumba instructors. She also teaches Zumba classes at the studio. So if you’d like to move like Lola check it out.

REEL SCHOOL - YOUTUBE

Michael Winn Johnson (Miles Gloriosus in Forum) hosts Reel School where he delves a little deeper into themes and motifs of recent cinema with a variety of videos including movie reviews, tutorials about film theory and history, Reel School Countdowns and Celebrity interviews. He has interviewed stars such as Bruce Campbell, William Shatner, Scott Bakula, Amy Acker, Amber Benson, and many more, and some of Reel School's tutorials have even been included in the curriculum at Baker University, the oldest University in Kansas.
