SMTers On The Town

Like the sailors on 24 hour leave in the Broadway classic ON THE TOWN, SMTers are often out and about performing with other theatre groups. On this page we try to keep up with as many of our alumni as we can who are performing elsewhere. If you loved them on our stage, go and see what else they're doing! BEAUTY & THE BEAST – OSHAWA LITTLE THEATRE

Chris Daniel (Albert in The Secret Garden, Charlie in Brigadoon) plays the Beast and Rob Murphy (Lt. Joe Cable in South Pacific) the vainglorious Gaston in this Disney classic! Brian Mathias (Reverend in Anne of Green Gables, Protean in Forum, Henry in South Pacific) is also featured in the ensemble. The show runs March 29 – April 21 at Oshawa Little Theatre, 62 Russett Avenue, Oshawa.

CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG – MARQUEE PRODUCTIONS

The lovely and talented Amy Sarjeant (Ensemble in The Music Man) takes on the role of Jemima Potts in this fantastical musical. Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film version of Ian Fleming's children's book, and featuring an unforgettable score by the Sherman Brothers (Mary Poppins), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is one family-friendly blockbuster that audiences will find "Truly Scrumptious."The show runs April 5 – 15 at the Newmarket Theatre, 55 Pickering Crescent, Newmarket.

THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME – ALEXANDER SHOWCASE

Jeff Hookings (Laurie in Little Women) is featured in the stage version of the Disney musical based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel about the adventures of Quasimodo. The show runs April 6-14 at the Fairview Library Theatre, 35 Fairview Mall Drive.

THE ATTIC, THE PEARL AND THREE FINE GIRLS – THEATRE AURORA

Jason Silzer (Director Spamalot and Children of Eden, Gomez in The Addams Family) directs this remarkable balancing act of broad comedy and real drama about 3 sisters reunited on the occasion of their father’s death who still have some serious reckoning to do with the past and each other. The show features Liisa Kallasmaa (Alice in The Addams Family) as Jayne. The show runs April 12 – 21 at Theatre Aurora, 150 Henderson Drive, Aurora.

QUEEN MARIE – ALUMNAE THEATRE

Paula Wilkie (Mrs. Spencer in Anne of Green Gables) takes on the role of Marie Dressler – Age 65 in this” larger-than-life musical that explores the life and times of actress Marie Dressler, an Ontario native who won international fame in the 1930s”. The show runs April 13 – 28 at the Alumnae Theatre, 70 Berkeley Street, Toronto.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR - ST ANNE'S CHURCH

Jennie Friesen Garde (Olga in Nine, Charlotte in A Little Night Music) joins the ensemble in this One Show only version of the Lloyd Webber/Rice classic. The show runs April 15 at 3:30pm at St. Anne's Anglican Church, 270 Gladstone Ave., Toronto.

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT – SPOTLIGHT MUSICAL PRODUCTIONS

Melanie Gaudet-Brandow (Gad’s Wife in Joseph) as music director and Elyse Hartmann (Evita) bring Andrew Lloyd Webbers fun and fantastic version of the biblical tale of Joseph to the stage. Any dream will do… Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat tells the biblical story of Jacob’s favourite son Joseph, and his coat of many colours. Joseph is blessed with vivid dreams that foretell the future. Sold into slavery by jealous brothers, Joseph endures a series of adventures which challenge him to his core. This popular musical features such classic songs as “Any Dream Will Do”, “Jacob and Sons”, “Close Every Door”, “Go, Go, Go Joseph”, and the “Joseph Megamix”. JUST US - THE BRYANT ACADEMY

The stellar Chris Ning (Che in Evita) and Alan Kulka perform their acoustic project where they focus on using one instrument and their voices to recreate music from a wide variety of genres including pop, rock and musical theatre. The show runs one performance only May 12th at 3:30pm at The Bakers Studio, Distillery District, 314-15 Case Goods Lanes, Toronto.

THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST - SCARBOROUGH THEATRE GUILD

Jason Silzer (Dir for Spamalot and Children of Eden) directs this Oscar Wilde classic about two bachelors, who must disentangle then re-entangle their double lives in order to win the affections of two very pretty young ladies, each of whom has a soft spot for fellows named Ernest. The show runs July 6-21, 2018 at Scarborough Village Theatre.

ZUMBA – THE MOVE STUDIO

Tamara Stokoe-Said (Lola in Damn Yankees, Anita in West Side Story) not only loves to dance onstage but she brings her moves to her fitness studio, The Move Studio in Newmarket. Tamara is a Zumba Education Specialist who travels all across Canada training Zumba instructors. She also teaches Zumba classes at the studio. So if you’d like to move like Lola check it out.

REEL SCHOOL - YOUTUBE

Michael Winn Johnson (Miles Gloriosus in Forum) hosts Reel School where he delves a little deeper into themes and motifs of recent cinema with a variety of videos including movie reviews, tutorials about film theory and history, Reel School Countdowns and Celebrity interviews. He has interviewed stars such as Bruce Campbell, William Shatner, Scott Bakula, Amy Acker, Amber Benson, and many more, and some of Reel School's tutorials have even been included in the curriculum at Baker University, the oldest University in Kansas.
